Routine Is King
•••
No doubt as the new year approaches many of you will be anxious about how much you’ve ate over the holiday period and what this has done to the number on the scales.
•••
The first thing you need to remind yourself, is that a number does not define who you are.
•••
If you have put on weight, do not stress about it. The biggest problem I see with people in the new year is jumping into an exercise program they weren’t doing before Christmas, and trying to adopt a new ‘diet’.
•••
This approach can work, but for the majority of people reading this it is completely wrong. Here’s the thing; if you just go back to exactly what you were doing before the festive period, you would lose 90% of the which you gained.
•••
The issue is people try to start a new lifestyle which is unsustainable. We need to focus on achievable, tangible goals before trying to train like an Olympic athlete.
•••
Start small;
2-3 exercise sessions per week
10,000 steps per day
Quality, nutrient dense food
2-3L of water per day
4-5 portions of fruit and veg per day
7-9 hours of sleep per night
•••
Once you have mastered these, then you may want to take things a step higher.
