YEAH, NO, DON’T PUT ME DOWN FOR CARDIO...

•••
Cardio training get absolutely slated in the weight training world. People lose their shit at the thought of cardio, as they think it’s going to make them lose their muscle mass.
•••
Here’s the thing; cardio stands for cardiovascular training. Anything cardio relates to the heart. Anything vascular relates to the highway which carries your blood and necessary oxygen. Incase you missed a few biology lessons, those things are pretty important for your survival. Not to mention, the aerobic system is the foundation of all human life.
•••
So what happens when we do cardio regularly? Well our heart becomes stronger, we can pump more blood out in a single beat, our resting heart rate drops, our blood pressure drops, we become more efficient with oxygen, our body builds more roads in our muscles and organs to allow greater exchange of gases, we don’t fatigue as quick, our metabolism and how we burn carbs and fats becomes more efficient. Our mitochondria, the powerhouse of the cell, increase in size and number!
•••
Guess what happens when you have a better aerobic base? You burn fat much more efficiently, and your ability to put on muscle is greater! •••
Before any fat loss phase, I always make sure clients have a decent aerobic base. This may require a 4-6 week pre-preparation phase before the actual fat loss phase. However, with all the benefits listed above, this makes fat loss a much easier process.
•••
Take home point; don’t neglect cardio. 1-3 sessions per week or around 180 minutes of cardio a week won’t kill your gains; but it may improve them!
